With an extensive portfolio of drives for multiple end-uses, Danfoss delivers technology and digital solutions that enable its customers to excel in an ever-changing world. Danfoss Drives aims to increase flexibility in system control and build a platform to deploy value-added services. This platform uses drives as both sensors and actuators, with intelligence distributed across both edge nodes and the cloud.
Exploring ways to develop systems that achieve multiple goals simultaneously
The base mechanisms for automation are provided through workflows and related data schemas for incoming and outgoing edge interfaces. The tooling to initiate, operate, and monitor these workflows is part of the Edge Platform. Both edge nodes and cloud services can also utilize additional data sources.
In co-operation with their partners, Danfoss Drives is exploring ways to develop systems that achieve multiple goals simultaneously:
- For legacy systems, using dynamic constraints to reflect additional system objectives. This approach allows the system to adhere to the original set-points while achieving its original goals, albeit at a slower pace.
- For new systems, applying machine learning to understand dynamic system behavior so that additional goals can be pursued without sacrificing primary objectives. The system gradually adapts its behavior, leading to better overall performance.
- They are also focusing on understanding system behavior during the design phase, using digital twins to address multiple goals from the outset.
- Additionally, they are investigating the possibilities of swarm intelligence, where global system behavior emerges as a sum of interacting local controllers.
