Tampere University, Human-Centered Technology (IHTE) research group: Positive technology experiences to support sustainable lives for all people

Tampere University is Finland’s second-largest university, comprising seven faculties that conduct scientific research in technology, health, and society, providing top-tier education in these fields.

One of the three research groups from Tampere University participating in the Industry X project is the Human-Centered Technology (IHTE) research group. Led by Professor Kaisa Väänänen, the group focuses on design research for novel interactive technologies.

The IHTE group conducts multidisciplinary research that combines engineering and technology development with psychological, sociological, and design perspectives. Their research also aims to develop methods for designing, evaluating, and implementing novel technical systems that offer more enjoyable user experiences.

Research focused on user needs and human-centered design

In the Industry X project, the research group is focusing on three main areas. First, they are gathering insights and developing a framework for understanding user and customer experiences with interactive industrial systems, which will be translated into design guidelines and methodological instructions. Second, they aim to create tools and guidance to help companies adapt to the demands of smart industry. Additionally, the group is working on developing Human-Centered AI (HCAI) design guidelines, contributing both scientifically and pragmatically to the future design of industrial systems.
