Tampere University, Software Engineering (TASE) group: Developing efficient ways to produce better quality software

Tampere University is Finland’s second-largest university, comprising seven faculties that conduct scientific research in technology, health, and society, providing top-tier education in these fields.
The Software Engineering (TASE) research group led by Associate Professor David Hästbacka focuses on various topics within software engineering, applications, and architectures. They have expertise in cloud-to-edge transitions, particularly in the context of industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 applications.
The TASE group is participating in the Industry X project, bringing their expertise in industrial IoT as well as cloud and edge systems.
Their research centers on the development of transferable compute units for ML-based applications, such as the acquisition and (pre-)processing of IoT sensor data and federated ML. They also aim to better understand data platform needs and explore approaches for connecting data with distributed computing. Finally, the research group seeks to create a model for the dynamic relocation and synchronization of these units across the cloud-edge continuum in industrial production applications.
