Vaski Group: Redefining industrial manufacturing

Vaski Group is a fast-growing Finnish company founded in 2015. It specializes in designing, manufacturing, and installing custom machines and automation solutions, and then delivering them worldwide. Vaski manufactures metalworking machines for the flat bar and sheet metal industry. The company has developed solutions to produce copper busbars, meeting the needs of an electrifying world, as well as flat bars made from aluminum and steel for various industrial applications. Vaski also manufactures coil lines and fully customized machines for sheet metal production, catering to diverse industrial needs.

Advances in automation and the industrial metaverse

Industry X has provided Vaski with a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge across multiple fronts in collaboration with other project members.

1. Configurable and flexible manufacturing solutions for autonomous sheet metal factories using coil lines

Digitalization is on the rise in the manufacturing sector, driven by emerging customer demands for faster production. In recent years, coil lines have been added to Vaski’s product portfolio through the acquisition of complementary products (e.g., busbar machines, custom automation). Due to the sharp increase in steel prices and transportation costs, coil lines have become more in demand, as they enable a higher level of automation.

2. Automated coil storage and coil automation for factories and sheet metal delivery centers

In addition to partnering with Finn-Power to deliver coil lines as part of automated sheet metal factories, Vaski also serves direct customers who seek to increase automation and reduce costs by using sheets from coil lines instead of pre-cut sheets.

3. Industrial metaverse applications in the sheet metal processing industry

The Metaverse is a hot trend as it transforms traditional business operations and unlocks new opportunities. However, the use of digital twins and the Metaverse in the sheet metal processing industry is still in its infancy. There is a lack of knowledge and understanding of how machine tool manufacturers like Vaski can unlock the potential of digital twins in sheet metal working. Or how the virtual environment of the Metaverse could be leveraged in design and sales. Additionally, it remains unclear what skills and effort are required to develop and maintain dependable Metaverse applications.
